- To recruit and train clinically competent health care leaders to work with children with chronic respiratory illness and their families through a family-centered, culturally competent, ethically sound, interdisciplinary approach.
- In accordance with the proposed objectives of Healthy People 2010, to educate health care leaders and families in the process of advocating for health policy change to help decrease health disparities in the region populations and increase community health promotion.
- To provide research education and opportunities to be able to generate, translate and integrate new knowledge (i.e. research and program/system development).
- In accordance with the proposed objectives of Healthy People 2010 to offer continuing education to increase family and patient education, disease prevention and community health promotion programs in the area of children with special health care needs, by offering training to community primary care physicians, physician office personnel, community agencies, community providers, and Title V agencies and thereby help coordinate community resources and programs.
- To encourage/support rural health through outreach clinics, distance learning, and on-line information and lectures.
